A Wandering Jon

Where ever I go, there I am.

A Change Is Gonna Come

So you all know I like to plan, and I get very wedded to said plans? Well the plan for this trip pretty much went out the window a week or so back, not that it was safe prior to that. A combination of unfortunate weather systems being in place everywhere, a government wavering around Covid policies and many places being much quieter as a result of both, caused me to change everything up!

My first week was always to be spent in Bangkok, and it was. Despite a mix of rain, storms and ridiculous humidity, I enjoyed myself as ever. Got out and down to Prachuap Kiri Khan and had a good couple of days before rains hit hard. Got over to Koh Lanta a week ago and it was belting down more often than not – not the “rainy” season I am used too. As well as this Lanta was just dead, not much was open and there was not many other tourists around. So I cut my losses and came out to Phuket.

Now, those of you reading this who know me, will be all “HYPOCRITE! You always go on about hating the place!”  And yes, I have never been a fan of Phuket, it always felt a little bit too manufactured, even with the gem that is Phuket Town. However, needs must, its been open for the longest post pandemic, it is busy, plenty of variety in activities and sites to see.

Being here has given me a whole set of options to look at going forward, including Khao Sok, Khao Lak, Ao Nang, Khao Yao Noi, Phi Phi, even get up to Ranong either as day trips, or overnights from here, or as simply next stops on this journey. As to the trip down the road aways and my “plan” I have 60 days at a minimum to use in Thailand (I can always extend that by another 30 days at a local immigration office) and I am only on like day 20 now, but looks like I’ll wing it a little more and just make decisions on the go. Going old school, even if it makes me twitch a little.
